Class Two

(2:00pm–3:00pm)

Please check our Facebook page for wet weather updates.

Class Overview

This class builds on the foundations laid in Class One, introducing further handling and socialisation. Dogs begin progressing to more advanced versions of the basic commands: sit, come, and down.

Distractions are increased and dogs are expected to hold positions for longer periods. A key new skill introduced is the return to starting position, which helps prepare dogs for the more refined exercises in higher classes. Heeling is introduced as a more structured extension of the controlled walk, and the stand command is taught for the first time.

Criteria for Promotion

  • Handling: More advanced than in Class One; dogs should accept increased handling calmly.

  • Leave It: Dog must ignore a sealed container of food and take a reward from the handler instead.

  • Sit: Hold for 10 seconds in both front and heel positions.

  • Recall: Dog comes when called from 3 metres away using both voice and hand signal.

  • Attention: Dog must focus on the handler’s face, ignoring a food lure.

  • Down/Drop: Dog stays lying down for 10 seconds in front, in heel position, and with the handler standing one step away.

  • Heeling: Dog follows on the left side in a straight line for 10 paces and automatically sits at the end.

  • Finish: Dog returns to the heel position and sits using hand signals.

  • Stand: Dog stands calmly at the handler’s left side for 5 seconds with rewards.
