Please check our Facebook page for wet weather updates.

Class Overview

Class One is the first level of the adult training program. It's suitable for new dogs starting after the Introductory Class and for puppies graduating from our Puppy Class.

This class focuses on the foundations of obedience training. We introduce the six key steps to successful training and teach essential commands including "sit", "come", and "down".

Handling plays a big role in Class One, especially for dogs that have had limited social or training experience. We take a gentle approach, using positive reinforcement and plenty of praise.

Criteria for Promotion

  • Handling: Dog remains calm while being handled, responds well to praise and rewards.

  • Leave It: Dog turns away from food in a closed hand on cue.

  • Sit: Dog sits and holds position for at least 3 seconds.

  • Recall: Dog comes when called and sits in front of the handler.

  • Attention: Dog maintains eye contact with the handler for 3 seconds.

  • Down/Drop: Dog lies down and remains in position for 4 seconds.

  • Controlled Walk: Dog walks calmly on the handler’s left side for 10 paces using lures.
